My outfit for Diwali - Pleated Passion!

Apologies readers for the delay! This weekend has really been quite manic and with it being Diwali I was consumed in family rituals and celebratory get togethers.

Since Diwali is a South Asian festival, I really wanted to do a post on my outfit of the day! It's not a conventionally traditional dress but it does incorporate a fusion of South Asian designs, and for this particular reason I wanted to share this post with you. Although you may not celebrate Diwali - its worth browsing through the pictures to get some cross cultural inspiration! For those of you who do celebrate Diwali - a very happy and prosperous Diwali to you and here's to celebrating many more Diwali's in style!

Scarlett Red Rose Pleated Passion - Diwali Fashion

Taking inspiration from the Mughal era, this particular outfit is designed using colours from the rich and authentic colour palette of deep reds, antique golds, and auburn browns. To lift these rich and luxurious colours, an infusion of green, blue and yellow have been incorporated within the traditional paisley motifs displayed across the border of the dress and underlay of the net.

I absolutely love the style of this dress since the skirts fabric is extremely free-flowing and lightweight! With a brocade fabric beneath the free flowing pleated net - a magnificent ball gown appeal has been created. Known by the name of a fishtail sari lengha, the dress hugs around the curves perfectly and unleashes below the knees into a quintessential princess-like dress.

Creating the figure hugging design, this gorgeously embellished material is wrapped around the lower waist- adding emphasis to those feminine curves! This also works well to add some much needed sparkle to the overall design, and the incredible detail gone into sewing each stone to the appliquéd floral pattern can be carefully appreciated.

Once the embellished material has been wrapped around the waist, the rest of the material is used to come across the bustier in order for these beaded baubles to hang off the shoulder from the back. Given the fact baubles have been used is what makes this dress so quirky and individualistic. It stands out from the norm and looks so incredibly beautiful. Indeed, thee beads are delicate to handle at first - but it does create that 'wow' factor and leaves a stylish impression on anyone you pass by!

The finished look comes together to show off a creative South Asian brocade fish tail sari lengha - embellished with gorgeous stones, floral and paisley patterns and enigmatic baubles! This outfit in comparison to many other traditional Asian styled outfits does make a quirky fashion statement and is truly sensational to adorn for any festivity!
